Clarkson Community High School has formed a special bond with its surrounding community and the City of Wanneroo.
It is using real street signs provided by the City in the school grounds - and to name its communities.
"The idea of the new system is to promote community spirit," principal John Young said.
"And the new names - Connolly, Walyunga, Hannaford and Porongurup - are derived from the street names bordering the school."
Mayor John Kelly praised the initiative. "The idea was put to Mr Young who contacted me and asked whether the City would be able to provide the school street signs to use in the school grounds to name walkways and the communities. Well I think it's a great idea and the City has provided the signs."
Mr Kelly presented the street signs at an assembley on Monday where he congratulated Clarkson's 66 teachers and 858 students on the school's excellent progress.
He spoke about the school's merit reward system, and the work of Chaplain Scott Curry, counseling students as a buddy and mentor, focusing on areas teachers might not be able to.
