The State Government needs to allocate more than $10 million in its 2007-08 budget to fund a TAFE campus in the northern suburbs, says Mindarie MLA John Quigley.
The nearest TAFE campuses that offer courses in the building industry are in Midland and Balga.
"I know of kids going from Quinns Rocks to Midland," Mr Quigley said. "We really need to think about our children's future and take advantage of the boom conditions in mining, building and industry."
"Children have to have post secondary qualifications"
The local member says vacant land at Clarkson Community High School was ideal for the campus.
Mr Quigley said the Govenrment had said it would consider the idea and the proposed site.
West Coast TAFE managing diretor said the TAFE recognised the need for training in the Northern suburbs.
