Teenagers will swap their uniforms for overalls and get their hands greasy this year working on a rusty old ute that is more than 50 years old. Clarkson Community High School has invested in a 1964 EH Holden ute for its Year 12 automotive students to repair and refurbish. Principal John Young said the school bought the ute off Gumtree for about $5000, including delivery, and he hoped the students would enjoy working on an iconic Australian vehicle.
CCHS celebrated NAIDOC today with a range of hands on cultural activities. Embracing this years theme of "We all stand on sacred ground" students did charcoal drawing, rock painting and learned some Noongar words through a storytelling session with Vanessa our AIEO. The highlight of the morning was a dance performance by some of our awesome Aboriginal students. We finished off the morning with a kangaroo sausage sizzle in our Nature Space.

As you may already know, Clarkson Community High School is all about Invitational Education - inviting students to learn through innovation, motivating projects and creating a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Our Year 11 and 12 Automotive students needed a car to work on for their course so we thought why not give them a project to be proud of. A long hard look through Gumtree found this little beauty, a 1964 EH Holden ute. All the bits are there, they just need some serious TLC and our boys and girls will certainly be learning a great deal about welding, panel beating, spray painting, upholstery repair and chrome restoration.
Our work on integrating disruptive innovations into the curriculum made Australian Teacher Magazine this month. Read more here
