The best of British came to Joondalup last week when a group of Clarkson Community High School students took over By Degrees restaurant for the My High School Restaurant Rules Cook In competition.

The students were the second group from Clarkson to compete in the contest and attempted to tackle what they considered to be the best of British fare to serve to their restaurant of dining customers.

Students chose the theme because many of the class members hail from Britain and they wanted to show some of their favourite dishes.

Year 11 student Mitch Purser, who was one of the several students to join the hospitality group just days before the big Cook In event, said it was a fun experience. He said the experience had been a great learning curve for the class.

"Even though it was a hectic, slightly apprehensive experience it was great fun and we all enjoyed making sure our guests enjoyed themselves," Mitch said.

He admitted that he and his fellow students who joined the group at the last minute had been nervous about how they would cope on the day but had all found they had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Guest were treated to a menu that included fresh tomato and basil soup served with dinner rolls for entree.

Following the entree came a main course that consisted of traditional roast beef served with roast potatoes, honey baby carrots, parsnips and beans. It was served with Yorkshire puddings and red wine gravy.

To round off the meal, trifle in a tall glass was served for desert.

"We wanted to keep it quite simple but make it an enjoyable experience for everyone who came and I think we achieved our goal." Mitch said.
