Prior to joining VET Business in Year 11, I had no work experience and I had no clue as to what I wanted to do when I finished school. Thanks to VET I have gained a lot of knowledge and understanding of the workplace and also accessed jobs through work experience, which included receptionist at Professional North Shore and then sales assistant at Guardian Pharmacy. VET has really guided me to get an idea of what I want to do.
After having three work placements in pharmacies I have become inspired to be a pharmacist. After completing my Certificate I and continuing in VET in Year 12, the opportunity arose to participate in a Certificate IV in Business and Management at Central TAFE, which is what I’m currently completing along with three other students in VET.
Being able to work in a simulated work environment at Central TAFE has given us a more in-depth idea and understanding of how a business functions and what is required of us to be successful in work relating to business. After completing my Certificate IV, I hope to go on to do a bridging course next year to get into Curtin University to become a pharmacist and gain a Bachelor of Pharmacy in six or seven years time.
