Year 12 Automotive students and their teacher Mr. Steven Bishop from Clarkson Community High School enjoyed a special treat today when a full military spec Hummer, or HumVee, paid a visit to the school.
George Stojokos was kind enough to allow our students to explore his amazing vehicle and answer any questions they had. Students from other classes also came to see the spectacle and were fascinated.
This particular HumVee is a 1988 model that saw military service in Bosnia during the 1990s. It weighs just under 3 tonnes and is fitted with a 6.2 litre V8 diesel engine, has self-inflating/deflating tyres, a mount for a .50 calibre machine gun and comes with a night vision thermal imaging camera.
Although the HumVee is a very large vehicle, the students found the inside quite cramped. They imagined it would be even more cramped wearing full military uniform.
Mr Bishop is currently teaching his students about diesel engines and engine configurations, so having a V8 diesel to examine fitted into his curriculum perfectly.
The school would like to thank Mr Stojokos for generously offering us his time today. The students appreciated it very much.
